General Work Description:
The jobs which a yearbook member does include interviewing, making layouts, writing captions, taking pictures, writing copy [the segment of text describing an event], fixing computers [and other technical issues], filing, organizing and filling out business forms, and passing out papers. Most people will be expected to do most of these jobs. No one does only one thing.
All positions will be taught accordingly so experience is not required!
For those interested in Tech:
We work with only Macintosh, but that should not be a problem as long as you can follow instructions. You have constant work throughout the year, especially since you need to ship all the pages. You need some technical skills for this position, but experience on a Mac is not required. The problems are a mix of software and hardware, and you will be in charge of installing new software and setting up any hardware. Other issues you will deal with is setting up the local server and the local printer [if you do not know how, you'll be taught!].
For those interested in Business:
The business position deals with all the money issues as well as filing and organizing (orientation, homecoming dance and distribution especially). Most of the paper work is done by the Business group. We deal with buying new equipment, depositing/withdrawing money, and also homecoming dance. The business people also keep track of who has bought a yearbook and thus have a bulk of work at the beginning of the year and at the end, but also small work throughout the year.
The Yearbook Environment:
You have to be able to work under pressure with a room of 20+ loud friends. To get the yearbook to be published on time, you have to dedicate your life to yearbook (yes, I said life!). You will need good people skills, be able to work with others, and not get easily agitated.
All are welcome to apply. Experience with Adobe Photoshop/InDesign is not required.

The yearbook price for September is $75 with ASB, $80 without. That's quite a good deal, because after September the ASB discount is void and all yearbooks are $80 until the end of first semester. At the start of second semester, the price goes up yet again, to its full price of $85. As well as paying an extra $10 than if you pay now with ASB, you will receive a melodramatic sigh of annoyance at anyone who dares order so late. So order today!
The official yearbook order form is attached as a PDF here, or you can pick up a paper copy in room E1B, right by the door. Fill out your name, grade, and order. Checks payable to MSJ Yearbook or Costanoan Yearbook staff or something of that sort.
(An "accessory pack" is one autograph supplement (extra pages for your HAGS's and KIT's) and one yearbook cover (to keep it from getting dirty and mishandled). A "namestamp" is your name either engraved on the yearbook cover itself or engraved onto a really cool nameplate that you can place anywhere on your book.)
Turn in the form to Mrs. Dotson or Anita Nuechterlein in the yearbook room, E1B, and then hang around to chat with us :)

Q: Can I still buy a yearbook?
A: Yes, yearbooks can be purchased until the end of school. Once the final number of copies is determined, a few extras are ordered and are available at distribution until all are gone. The prices are listed on the order form, which can be found here (http://www.costanoan.net/orderform.pdf).
Q: How do I order a yearbook?
A: Order forms are available online (link posted above) or from the yearbook room in E1B during 6th period or after school. Any member of the yearbook staff will be happy to help you get the forms and get them processed.
Q: How much will a yearbook cost?
A: The price increases throughout the year as we add copies to the original contract. The book itself is available for $80 in September w/o ASB, $75 w/ ASB, $80 for everyone the rest of first semester, $85 during second semester.The accessory pack is available for $3 each. Namestamping costs $5 and is only available until January 1.

Q: Can I still buy a dedication page?
A: Yes! You can buy a dedication page for the 2007-2008 yearbook until sometime in December.
Q: How much will a page cost me?
A: The cost for pages added to the publishing contract for student/senior-dedications will be $300 per page, $150 per half page.
Q: How do I turn in the pages?
A: You can turn them in either as a camera ready cut and paste page or as a computer created document. If you want yearbook staff to create a page from pictures, a service fee will be charged.
Q: If I want to do my page on the computer what do I need to know?
A: If you create a digital dedication, please be sure that all your graphics are set at 300 dpi, and the document is a jpg file in CYMK format.

SENIOR PICTURES //
Q:When do I have to have my senior picture taken by?
A: The last shoot must be before January 1. If you might need to have a retake, plan on having your first picture taken by November 15.
Q: How do I turn my senior picture in to be included in the yearbook?
A: You don't do anything. Prestige/Lifetouch sends us a CD with all the pictures on it. If you had your picture taken late, if we get the picture (or even the proof) in time, we can scan it and hand place it. but it depends on the publishing company in Missouri if it gets placed correctly.
Q: But what if I had the picture taken somewhere else?
A: According to the contract with Prestige/Lifetouch, you cannot have your picture in the yearbook unless it is taken by Prestige/Lifetouch
